About the speaker:
Luke O'Neill is an internationally renowned Irish biochemist, immunologist, and science communicator. He is a Professor of Biochemistry at Trinity College Dublin and a leading expert in the fields of innate immunity and inflammation. His research career features numerous high-impact achievements, including the discovery of the protein Mal (a key master switch in immunity) and studies into cellular pathways that regulate inflammation.
Beyond academia, O'Neill is a successful biotechnology entrepreneur. He co-founded Inflazome (which was acquired by the pharmaceutical giant Roche in 2020) and Sitryx, both of which focus on developing novel medicines to treat inflammatory diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and COPD.O'Neill is also celebrated for his ability to make science accessible to the public.
